How to Make Your Hinge Profile Better: 5Data Driven Tips for Enhancing Engagement

Learn how to make your Hinge Profile Significantly More Attractive With these 10 Data Driven Tips

By Joshua Pompey

1. Create a strong visual story

The collection of images you share on your Hinge profile should do more than just show what you look like. Your photos should tell a story of what it would actually be like to date you.

The more compelling and captivating this story is, the more appealing you become to others. It’s that simple.

If you post six photos of yourself posing alone, the only story you’re telling is what you look like. However, if you post one photo traveling (i.e., a recent trip to Europe), one photo engaged in an activity (i.e., skiing), one photo with friends (i.e., hanging out at a restaurant), one playful photo (i.e., interacting with a funny backdrop), one photo that shows a kind aspect of your personality (i.e., laughing with your dog), and one photo of you at your best (i.e., dressed up at a celebration), you now have a wide range of ways to spark attraction. 2. Hire a Professional (or a enlist the help of a trusted friend)

Having at least one or two photos that highlight what you look like at your absolute best is critical. Hiring a professional photographer for Hinge is a great way to accomplish this goal and can have a tremendous impact on your overall Hinge results. Is hiring a photographer necessary for everyone? No. Some people have more than enough great photos without needing any outside help.

However, what I can say is that I have over a decade’s worth of data and experience that shows hiring a professional photographer leads to better overall results. The reasoning is fairly simple – they are professionals at what they do! Who would be more equipped to make your look your best possible self in a photo than an actual professional at taking photos?

With that said, not everyone has the means to hire a professional. If money is a little tight, the next best idea would be to enlist the help of a trusted friend who is great at taking photos. These days smart phones have professional quality cameras, so you will still be able to yield solid results.

3. Use Your Hinge Prompts Strategically

There is no self summary or about me essay in a hinge profile. Everything you reveal about yourself must be revealed through your prompts and photos. This is why it is critical to choose your Hinge prompts strategically.

The goal should be to choose a combination that allows you to reveal as much attractive information about yourself as you can.

For example, let’s suppose I chose the following 3 prompts: “my simple pleasures,” “two truths one lie” and “a shower thought I had recently.”

The goal of the 1st prompt (my simple pleasures) might be to focus on revealing as many interests as I can, and to paint a stronger picture of what I value most in life.

The goal of the 2nd prompt (two truths one lie) is intended to bait someone into a fun conversation, while also showcasing a couple of the most interesting aspects of my life.

The goal of the 3rd prompt (a shower thought I had recently) will be used to show I’m funny, and generate conversation through humor.

The possibilities of how to use these prompts is only limited to your imagination, but the goal is to implement them in a manner that allows you to reveal as much about yourself as you possibly can, in a fun an engaging manner. The right combination of prompts, combined with a powerful visual story, will lead to tremendous results.

If I had 3 prompts that only demonstrated humor, or 3 prompts that only showed how I like to spend my free time, I would appear to be much more one dimensional, leading to limited engagement.

4. Every Photo And Prompt Must Focus On Optimizing Conversation

hinge photos and prompts must focus on engagement

With every action you take, the biggest question on your mind should be, “will this spark someone to start a conversation with me?”

This is why it is so critical to choose photos that ignite conversations and craft your prompts properly. For example, suppose the prompt I chose is “If loving this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.” There’s a big difference between writing, “Exploring new places,” and “Exploring new places – currently have my eyes on Machu Picchu, but open to ideas… any suggestions?! ? ?”

The first response low effort, boring, and creates no engagement, while the second response to this prompt shows a sense of adventure (wants to climb Machu Picchu), has more personality, engages the reader to take part in the conversation, and shows more enthusiasm about life. Every prompt should be approached with the same mindset.

The photos should also be approached the same way. This is where captions are extremely useful. If I post a humorous photo and use the caption, “leave a one word review for this,” I might generate a lot of fun responses that will lend themselves towards a smooth transition into witty banter.

5. Make it Clear That You Are Different

Avoid profiles that are filled with cliché statements. The focus should be on separating yourself from the pack. There’s a difference between using the Simple Pleasures prompt to say “good coffee and long walks” versus “when my Uber driver stays silent and hits every green light.” The first is boring; the second shows personality.

You can also experiment with using more unique prompts. For example: A shower thought I recently had — “Should people who stand up before it’s their turn to get off a flight be rerouted to their own island?”

Ultimately, you want your personality to shine through. The more you differentiate yourself in a positive way, the more engagement you’ll receive.
